Touch The Trucks

2013

In celebration of National Public Works Week

We had a spectacular day for our annual Touch-The-Trucks event! More than 1300 people attended the annual event and were able to explore more than 30 pieces of equipment in celebration of National Public Works Week. The Rhythm Room added a special beat to the fun with their amazing drum demonstration and interaction with the children.

The children enjoyed having the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat and discover what the world of DPW, Fire, Police, Construction, Trash/Recycling, Electric, Recreation, the Bristol County Sherriff’s Office Mobile Command Unit trucks are like. The staff was most welcoming and patient explaining details of the trucks and allowing excited parents and children to safely climb aboard.    They were able to see, touch, interact with and learn about special vehicles and big trucks and their functions.

We would like to extend a big thanks to the DPW, North Attleborough Parks and Recreation, Fire, Police, School, Electric  and Landfill Departments, the Bristol County Sherriff’s Office, Above Grade Construction, Boro Sand & Stone Corporation, Cryan Landscaping,  Waste Management and Achin’s for bringing their sparkling clean trucks, cruisers, fire engines, mobile command unit, buses, race car, specialized equipment and more.  We would also like to thank the Rhythm Room for their participation and energizing our event with their amazing skills.

We are also so very grateful to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly on a beautiful day to make sure everything ran smoothly. We hope you enjoyed the sixth annual Touch The Trucks event and look forward to hearing about your experience and how we can make it even bigger and better for next Spring.

PLOW DAMAGE

The Town is not responsible for damaged lawns, sprinkler heads, fences, steps, trees or
shrubs that are located within the public way.

The Town will be responsible for mailboxes that are physically hit by a plow. Mailboxes
pushed over from the force of plowed snow are not covered.

Residents are urged to drive stakes with reflectors along the edge of lawns.

If you believe you have a valid claim, please contact the Selectmen’s office at 508-699-0100. Thank you.

WATER USE RESTRICTION NOTICE

As mandated by the Department of Environment Protection (DEP) to ensure a sustainable water supply through the Town’s high water demand season, the North Attleborough Water Department has issued a Mandatory Non-Essential Water Use Restriction beginning May 1, 2013. This water use restriction shall be effective through September 30th, 2013.

  1. All non-essential water use is ONLY ALLOWED on Tuesday and Saturday before 9 am and after 5 pm at ODD NUMBERED houses.
  2. All non-essential water use is ONLY ALLOWED on Wednesday and Sunday before 9 am and after 5 pm at EVEN NUMBERED houses.

Nonessential outdoor water use is allowed ONE DAY per week before 9am and after 5pm (Odd Numbered houses on Saturday, Even Numbered houses on Sunday) whenever a Drought Advisory or higher is declared by the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force.

Non-essential water use is defined as the following:

  • Irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems
  • Washing of vehicles, except in a commercial car wash
  • Washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways, except as necessary to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives or cement.

The following uses may be allowed when mandatory restrictions are in place:

  • Irrigation to establish a new lawn and new plantings during the months of May and September;
  • Irrigation of public parks and recreational fields by means of automatic sprinklers outside the hours of 9 am to 5 pm; and
  • Watering lawns, gardens, flowers and ornamental plants by means of a hand-held hose.

Violation of the Non-Essential Water Use Restriction may result in penalties:
1st offence – Reminder Notice to home (documented)
2nd offence – Written Warning to home delivered by mail.
3rd offence – $50 Fine.
4th offence – $100 fine (daily for each additional offence)

Please note that these restrictions are required by the DEP’s Water Management Act Permit, and are not a result of diminished water supply.  The restriction program is designed to sustain water supply within the region. Your anticipated cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Spring Hydrant Flushing

The North Attleborough Public Works Water Division will begin flushing fire hydrants Tuesday, April 16, 2013 (Tuesday–Thursday for the first week) and continue for approximately ten weeks (Monday–Thursday).

Flushing will begin in the Kelley Blvd. section from the Attleboro line to the Plainville line (Route 152), the Cliffs area and the Industrial Park.  Flushing will be done from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. This schedule is dependent on weather conditions.

This maintenance activity is being performed to maintain water quality throughout the system. Minor discoloration of water may result in the areas where flushing operations are occurring.  Residents should refrain from doing laundry if discoloration of the water is observed. If you experience discoloration, run your cold water until the water clears. This may take several minutes.  If the discoloration does not clear, please contact the Water Division.  While flushing operations are occurring, there may be pressure fluctuations in the adjacent neighborhood.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our residents.  Should you have any questions, please call the Water Division at 508-695-7790.
